Jennifer, Bennifer, J.Lo, Jenny from the Block . . . Jennifer Lopez has had almost as many monikers as she’s had memorable fashion moments. This quadruple-threat star rose to fame by riding the nineties Latin wave, but despite her personal and career ups and downs—messy breakups, box office bombs, even a few Razzies—her unvarnished charm, killer physique, and knack for playing up her best assets on the red carpet have made her a force of glamour that just won’t quit.

The Lopez look is downright steamy: plunging necklines, thigh-high slits, Ann-Margret hair. Not one to lean too heavily on the advice of stylists, she has regularly been recognized for her daring awards-night selections. A Lopez dress almost inevitably sets tongues wagging and flashbulbs popping—even if it isn’t always lauded by the critics. She favors provocative and perhaps a bit flashy threads from Milanese tastemakers like and , with a few sleek, sportier looks by the American classicist thrown in for good measure. Whichever route she takes, her clothes always make the most of her fantastic figure (highlighting her much-celebrated posterior).

Lopez inhabits a world that could hardly be more different from her quiet Catholic upbringing in the Bronx, New York. With three failed marriages under her belt before she turned 43, she’s been a perennial tabloid cover girl. But unlike many of her fellow gossip-rag mainstays, she is a highly self-disciplined teetotaler who favors the adrenaline rush of a romance roller coaster over the rush of drugs and alcohol. Although her notorious demands and superbling accessorizing have earned her a reputation as a diva, the empathy (and constructive criticism) she has dished out as a judge on American Idol demonstrate just how down-to-earth and direct she really can be.

Lopez has twice ventured into the garment business, in 2010 partnering with her (soon-to-be-ex-) husband Marc Anthony on a multimillion deal with Kohl’s. With eight albums and a slew of number-one hits on the Billboard charts—not to mention multiple film successes and a Golden Globe nod for her role in Selena—she truly embodies the multifaceted modern celebrity. Having added “producer” to her résumé in 2011 as an executive of the pan-Latin talent contest ?Q’Viva! The Chosen, she is more than a well-dressed household name; she’s a brand that always stays in fashion.
